Elon Musk attacks ‘moron’ Neil Ferguson who flouted his own lockdown rules | World | News

Professor Ferguson has stood down from his Government advisory position following the embarrassing incident. The Telegraph reported the epidemiologist allowed his married lover to visit him at home in London on two occasions during the coronavirus lockdown. Billionaire Elon Musk has been outspoken against the tight lockdown inflicted upon many countries across the globe.

Mr Ferguson’s predicted there could be a worst-case scenario of 2.2 million victims in the US.

The scientist led a team at Imperial College London which also claimed more than 500,000 Britons could die if there were no lockdown.

Mr Musk said: “Something more should be done.

“This guy has caused massive strife to the world with his absurdly fake science.”

Mr Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, tweeted in early March that the panic over the virus was “dumb”.

He has described the lockdown as “breaking people’s freedoms in ways that are horrible and wrong”.

The US has been the worst affected country of COVID-19 with more than 72,000 deaths.

Mr Hancock said: “Clearly the social distancing rules are there for everyone and they are incredibly important and they are deadly serious, and the reason is that they are the means by which we have managed to get control of this virus.”

In response to the incident, Professor Ferguson said: “I accept I made an error of judgement and took the wrong course of action. I have therefore stepped back from my involvement in Sage.

“I acted in the belief that I was immune, having tested positive for coronavirus, and completely isolated myself for almost two weeks after developing symptoms.

“I deeply regret any undermining of the clear messages around the continued need for social distancing to control this devastating epidemic. The Government guidance is unequivocal, and is there to protect all of us.”
